Welcome, Training Colleague!

You will soon receive a personal email message confirming your enrollment in the course and providing other instructions. Please read that message and follow its instructions carefully, including 1) replying to the message to confirm receipt, and 2) NOT attempting to register in the Learning Management System (we update the system constantly and open it to all members of a new cohort at the same time).

IMPORTANT: All course notifications are sent by email. If you do not receive an email notification within two business days of purchasing the course, please carefully check your spam folder. If you do not find a message, please call or text us at +1. 971.263.8890.

About ten days before your cohort begins, you will receive other e-mail messages with instructions giving you access to the Learning Management System (LMS) and all course materials and providing you with the Zoom details for the first online session.

In the meantime, here are some tips on preparing:

Be ready for a rigorous experience. Previous participants report that it takes between four and seven hours to complete the pre-work modules required BEFORE our first session. And once the Live Sessions start, expect to spend between three and five hours between each class on preparation and homework.

Remember, we are using a “flipped classroom” model that depends heavily on pre-work and participant preparation. This enables us to devote our online time together exclusively to actual practice.

Find a quiet, private spot where you can participate in the course each week. Ideally you should be able to both stand and sit in this spot.

Plan on using a laptop or desktop computer to connect with your colleagues. Avoid using a tablet or mobile phone. Phones tend to pick up distracting external noise. Plus, you will want a bigger screen so you can see all of your colleagues.

Make sure you have either a built-in camera in your computer or a WebCam you can attach to your computer.

Avoid using the internal microphone in your computer, as these are generally low quality and pick up distracting external noise. Instead, get a headset microphone or use earbuds with a microphone built into the cord. A USB microphone is best; avoid using a mic that plugs into your computer’s 3.5 mm headphone jack. If your external WebCam has a good built-in microphone, that usually works better than a mic built into your computer.

Use an ethernet cable or other physical line to connect to your modem or router if at all possible. Wi-Fi connections are more prone to noise and dropping out.

We will use Zoom to connect in our training class. Zoom is extremely easy to use and does NOT require you to register or pay anything. All you need to do is 1) click on the link you will receive in an email for the first live session, 2) follow the prompt to download a small Zoom applet, then 3) click on “join.” After that, you will always simply click on a link to join each class session. Don’t worry — you will receive a scheduling reminder e-mail well ahead of time for each class!
